About Me

On Saturday, January 16, at 2:00 PM, we had our lives forever changed when Asher and Samuel, our long prayed for and long-awaited twins, arrived at 24 weeks and 6 days gestation. The boys weighed less than 2 lbs and spent over 4 months in the hospital before coming home. Our blog began as a way to chronicle the boys birth and subsequent hospital stay, but now we hope to simply capture our journey as a family. As we travel through the adventure of each day, tackling obstacles left by prematurity, we have discovered that we can't go over, we can't go under, but we must go through those scary places... We chose to face these challenges head on as a family. We rely on the strength granted to us by our Lord to help us along our way.

The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly

Waiting for Daddy...

Pushing my cart; sippy cup available at a moment's notice!

The Good:

As demonstrated by photo evidence, Asher loves eating graham crackers. He happily feeds himself the crackers with no signs of distress. A pretty big change for the little guy who gagged on thick purees two months ago! We are pretty jazzed, to say the least. Sam Sam has decided that he likes walking. He still loves to run around (yes, literally run) with his little push cart, but he has been walking solo quite a bit more. He also mastered the stairs at his cousins' house in about two minutes. Needless to say, I am glad that we live in a one story house. He is lightening fast on those stairs!

The Bad:

Well, nothing is truly bad....For every rain cloud, we have a silver lining. While we still see speech in our future, we do see some gains in the communication area. Neither of the boys have any words yet, but Sam, particularly, seems to be understanding a lot of what we say and following simple commands. Both guys do vocalize to get our attention and seem to be more interested in communication/language. We'll just have to wait and see. The speech eval is planned for late fall. Asher's sensory issues have kicked into full swing lately. Really, I am not sure if they are much worse than they were, or he's just getting older, so they are more noticeable. The good news is, we love our new OT and supervising PT. Both have some fresh ideas for our sweet little boy, and we are excited to get working.

The Ugly:

Nothing ugly in our life other than Hurricane Irene. All I can say is a week with an earthquake, a hurricane, and a hail storm/possible tornado is pretty crazy.
